Aldi applies to East Herts Council to install 256 solar panels at Bishop’s Stortford store

Discount supermarket chain Aldi has applied for planning permission to install 256 solar panels on the roof of its Bishop’s Stortford store.

The proposal for the supermarket in London Road, submitted to planning authority East Herts Council, forms part of a wider programme of solar PV installations across the Aldi estate in the UK and Ireland.

The aim is to “significantly reduce Aldi’s carbon footprint and contribute towards mitigating climate change”.

The German chain reported its best ever festive season as sales hit £1.6 billion in the run-up to Christmas and accounted for its highest ever share of the market, with 10%.
