Sir Rod Stewart to make Glastonbury history by playing legends slot – 23 years after his headline appearance
Rock superstar Sir Rod Stewart is set to make Glastonbury history after being confirmed to play the legends slot at next year’s music festival – 23 years after his last appearance.
The evergreen 79-year-old chart-topper will become the first person to headline the event and be given legends billing.
Sir Rod recently lamented he might have to sell his five top-range Italian sports cars due to potholes in roads leading to his Lower Sheering mansion.
He is the first act to be confirmed for the 2025 festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset from June 25 to 29. One of the best-selling artists of all time, he will follow in the footsteps of Dolly Parton, Barry Gibb and Kylie Minogue by playing the coveted Sunday teatime slot, which draws one of the event’s biggest crowds.
He said that he was “proud, ready and more than able to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury” next summer.
Tickets, which cost £373.50 plus £5 booking fee, have already sold out. The last time he played Glasto, they were £97.
Meanwhile, Sir Rod, who lives in a gated country estate off Sheering Lower Road, told fans on Facebook earlier this month he was “extremely fortunate” to be the owner of five iconic ltalian hybrid sports cars, which he described as works of art.
But he added: “Unfortunately, because of the potholes on our roads I might have to find new owners for them.”
He has been driving the cars since the 1970s and “absolutely loves and adores them”. He thanked his fans, admitting they were the sole reason he owned them.
Rod is often seen parking his yellow Lamborghini in Bell Street, Sawbridgeworth, while doing some shopping and is always happy to be pictured with locals beside the motor.
In March 2022 he filmed himself fixing potholes in Sheering Lower Road with a gang of workmen, saying his Ferrari couldn’t get through. He said: “I’m repairing the street where I live because no one can bother to do it!”
