Video: Keyless car thieves filmed driving away Mercedes from Sawbridgeworth address

Car thieves were filmed on a CCTV camera activating the ignition of a keyless Mercedes Benz car and driving it off.

The car, a GLC 250 model registration EX19 WSJ, was parked outside the owner's home in Burnside, Sawbridgeworth, on Sunday night when the thieves struck.

One crook is seen pointing a scanning device towards the house before the car starts up and is driven away.

Police have reported a spate of thefts of keylesscars in the Sawbridgeworth and Bishop's Stortford area, with seven stolen in two weeks. Police advise drivers to store their keys in a signal blocker pouch.

Insp Mark Collins, of the police's Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “If you have a keyless vehicle, it’s vitally important to store key fobs inside a car key signal blocker, such as a Faraday pouch or box, and as far away from the vehicle as possible.

"You could also consider having a tracking system fitted to your vehicle or using more traditional crime prevention methods such as a steering wheel lock or clamp.

"Installing CCTV systems, doorbell cameras, security lighting and making use of noisy gravel on the driveway can also act as a deterrent."
