Labour MP Josh Dean launches NHS campaign with Herts County Council election candidates David Jacobs and Jack Risbridger
Labour MP Josh Dean has launched a campaign to cut NHS waiting times in Hertfordshire with two of his party’s county council election candidates in Hertford and Stortford.
Along with Cllr David Jacobs, who is standing in Bishop’s Stortford West, and Jack Risbridger, who is contesting the Hertford St Andrews seat, he is asking residents to sign a petition calling for targeted Government support.
The aim is to improve the county’s health services and cut NHS and GP waiting times.
Mr Dean, who won the Hertford and Stortford seat at last year’s General Election, said: “After 14 years of Conservative failure on the NHS, waiting times for GP and NHS appointments across our county are at unacceptable levels. Residents in Hertford and Stortford deserve better.
“After just six months under a Labour Government, waiting lists are already falling and we’re starting to get the NHS back on its feet. But there’s more to do if we want to fix the dire inheritance left by the previous Government and build an NHS fit for the future.
“That’s why we’re asking residents to back our campaign for targeted Government funding to improve our local health services and cut NHS and GP waiting times for our community.”
Cllr Jacobs, a member of the East Herts district and Bishop’s Stortford town councils for Central ward, said: “We all know how hard it can be to see a GP, joining the 8 o’clock rush to book an appointment. We need targeted funding to drive waiting times down and make the NHS accessible for all.
“The Labour Party built the NHS and under this Labour Government we know it is in safe hands, but investment is needed urgently to address the appalling health inequalities we find in even the more prosperous areas of Hertfordshire like Bishop’s Stortford.”
Mr Risbridger added: “Labour has committed to bringing down the excessive waiting lists we’ve inherited after 14 years of NHS neglect. I want to play my part locally and ensure our residents can access local health services. I’m proud to join with Josh and David to launch this petition.”
