Former Herts and Essex High School student Gbemisola Martha Obolo has won the Future Legal Mind Award 2018.

The accolade, presented by The National Accident Helpline, recognises the hard work and commitment of law students and aims to identify the next generation of talented legal professionals.

Eight candidates were shortlisted and judged by a panel of industry experts, with Gbemisola coming out on top to receive a £5,000 prize and a coveted work experience placement at a top law firm.

Gbemisola, who attended the Warwick Road secondary as a sixth-former between 2015 and 2017, said: “Winning the ‘Future Legal Mind Award 2018’ is now one of my greatest achievements and I am excited for what the future will bring. I am grateful for the support and recognition I have received from Herts and Essex and I encourage other students to take part in such competitions.”

Gbemisola is currently studying LLB law with international relations at The University of Surrey. As well as studying for her degree, she works part-time at a care home, loves singing, and is a published poet.

Assistant head Emma Kirkham said: “Gbemisola was an absolute pleasure to teach, she was determined and worked incredibly hard. All of us at Herts and Essex are very proud of her achievements and we look forward to following her future career.”
