Stansted leisure centre reopens to gym users after months of closure due to the pandemic
Gym goers were welcomed back through the doors of Stansted’s Mountfitchet Romeera Leisure Centre on Monday (Aug 10).
The facility, based at Forest Hall School, was given the all-clear to reopen this week and parish council chair Maureen Caton officially marked the occasion.
It is the last of Uttlesford's three leisure centres to start back up again in the wake of easing coronavirus restrictions. But operator 1Life said swimming pools, showers and changing rooms would remain closed at all three venues for the time being.
Mrs Caton said staff had gone to great lengths to ensure the safety of users. "They were very keen to show us all their health and safety measures that are in place to keep everybody safe.
"They are doing a lot of external exercise sessions as well. It was all very well laid out inside to allow for social distancing with plenty of hand sanitising stations and everyone will be briefed before they go in."
Revised opening hours are in place and customers must book exercise slots in advance via the 1Life app, website or by calling the centre direct.
Mark Braithwaite, 1Life Chief Executive, said: "We want to ensure that members and users feel comfortable and safe using our facilities."
