Leventhorpe School GCSEs: 'Outstanding effort and application rewarded with a superb set of results'
Staff at Leventhorpe are looking forward to welcoming back GCSE students who are staying on to the Sawbridgeworth school's brand new sixth form centre.
Jessica Brown was the Cambridge Road secondary's highest achiever, with nine grade 9s and one 8.
A spokesperson for the school said: "The outstanding effort and application of the Year 11 students at Leventhorpe were rewarded with a superb set of results.
"The students have dealt with uncertainty and significant disruption and change throughout the pandemic, and the school is incredibly proud of the maturity and resilience shown by students throughout Years 10 and 11.
"The assessment system this year has given students an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities in a different way, and teachers have worked incredibly hard to ensure the grades awarded were both fair and reflected the skills and knowledge of the students.
"The outcomes achieved will enable students to progress to their next stage of education with a sense of confidence at the end of a very challenging 15 months of schooling."
Other notable achievers were:
- James French, Sam Jones, Harry Roberts, Florence Roxburgh and Ian Sanderson – seven 9s, three 8s
- Dylan Barbone and Hannah Rhodes – seven 9s, two 8s, one 7
- Barnaby Cox – six 9s, three 8s, one 7
- Amelie Gibson – six 9s, two 8s, two 7s
- Jude Reynolds – five 9s, four 8s, one 7.
Headteacher Malcolm White was delighted to see the joy and happiness on so many faces as students collected results on Thursday (August 12).
"I've been so impressed with our school community during the pandemic," he said. "There's been a real sense of pulling together to do the best we can for our students.
"The staff and parents have played a key role in this, but the students should take centre stage – this is a day for them to celebrate with a real sense of relief that all of their hard work has paid off.
"I'm delighted for them and look forward to continuing working with them in September, when we open our new sixth-form facilities in our new Science and Sixth Form Centre."
