Leventhorpe head salutes A-level success as students overcome 'unprecedented challenges'
Year 13 students at Leventhorpe School are celebrating A-level success today (Thursday, August 18) after tackling “unprecedented challenges” over the past two years.
The exams were the first externally-assessed test the teenagers at the Cambridge Road secondary had faced as their GCSEs in 2020 were graded by their teachers.
Their sixth-form experience has also been affected by periods of Covid-19 lockdown and online learning.
Top-performing students were Reece Mascall and Matthew Morrissey, who both achieved a clean sweep of 4 A* grades. Other high achievers were Luke Sanderson (three A*s and an A), Danny Bill (two A*s and two As), Erin Messenger and Bobbie Short (both two A*s and an A), Michael Morris (two A*s, an A and a C) and Oliver Murray (two A*s and a B).
Erynn Palmer, Finlay Cook, Mae Hawksworth, Ella Ballard-Adams and Daisy Lucas all secured the top grade of Double Distinction* on their Level 3 BTEC courses.
Head Malcolm White said: “Our Year 13 cohort of 2022 was a delightful group of young people who have faced unprecedented challenges since the pandemic took hold in 2020.
“They have demonstrated incredible resilience and flexibility during their sixth-form studies and I want to thank them for working so proactively with the school as we have navigated these difficult times.
“The joy of working with, and celebrating with, such superb young people cannot be overstated.
"I am delighted to see so many of our students going on to study on their first-choice university courses. It is also great to see so many students securing high-quality degree apprenticeships. We wish them every success in their exciting futures.”
