Leventhorpe School’s A-level and BTEC results: Head impressed by students’ resilience and determination

The head of Sawbridgeworth’s Leventhorpe School has paid tribute to his resilient and determined A-level and BTEC students celebrating exam success today (Thursday, August 17).

Malcolm White said the Year 13 cohort of 2023 was now looking forward to a wide range of exciting future plans.

These were the first public exams the sixth-formers had taken since their primary school SATs as they had their GCSE grades set by their teachers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Top-performing students were Jessica Bloomfield, Barnaby Cox, Nathan Kempthorne and Harry Roberts, who all achieved the equivalent of at least three As in their A-levels.

Heather Cannon, Aoife James, Mollie McManus, Mia Ratcliffe, Alfie Rowe and Hannah Shotter all achieved the top grade of Double Distinction* in their BTEC courses.

Mr White said: “The past few years have seen huge changes and challenges for our students and their teachers. I’ve been so impressed by the resilience and determination shown by our students as they have progressed through their courses.

“Today we say goodbye to so many wonderful young adults and it’s been great chatting with them about their plans. It’s fantastic to see talented young people like our head student, Barnaby Cox, going on to study history at Oxford University.

“We’re seeing more and more students choosing university courses with clear links to professional pathways. It’s also pleasing to see so many students choosing alternative routes like high-quality degree apprenticeships within sectors like finance, civil engineering and construction.

"It’s been a pleasure working with such a wonderful cohort of talented young people and we wish them every success as they leave us."
