Luke Cusack: Family’s tribute to Stansted Airport worker, 21, who died in a crash with an HGV on the M11 between Bishop’s Stortford and Harlow




A family has paid tribute to a 21-year-old Stansted Airport worker who died in a crash on the M11 on his way home after finishing a shift.

Luke Cusack, who worked for Blue Handling, the ground handling company that provides services for Ryanair, was involved in a three-vehicle collision between Bishop’s Stortford and Harlow on the afternoon of Monday June 16.

An HGV heading north on the motorway crashed through the central reservation between junctions 7a and 8, hitting two cars travelling southbound.

Luke, who was driving one of the cars, was killed and the male driver of the other car was seriously injured.

The lorry driver, a 57-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

In a statement released through Essex Police, the victim’s family said: “Luke was a bright, strong-willed young man, known for his determination and unique energy.

“He had a rare gift for unexpected conversations, blending humour, insight, curiosity and knowledge.

“Luke had dreams and plans. He was building a future on his own terms, chasing his goals with quiet focus and unwavering drive. He approached life with intention, spoke with honesty and made even small moments feel meaningful.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude to the emergency services and the witnesses that were there. Thank you for your courage, compassion and care during such a heartbreaking moment. Your presence meant more than words can ever say.

“As a family, we are shattered. There are no words. Our lives will never be the same. As we grieve, we gently ask for privacy and space to begin processing this unimaginable loss in our own time and way.”

Police have repeated their appeal for anyone with information or dashcam footage in relation to the crash to contact them.
