The event on Friday, September 29 was organised by Bridgette Hutchins, a Stortford resident and a volunteer at the unit, which is based at Harlow and Epping hospitals Princess Alexandra and St Margaret's.

"It supports women coping with breast cancer and raises money for treatment, care and clinical trials to give women in the area the best treatment possible and to increase rates of survival, she said.

Bridgette began raising funds for the unit after she lost a good friend to breast cancer in 2008. Four years later, she had her own health scare, which increased her desire to support the unit.

The Mayor of Bishop's Stortford, Cllr Colin Woodward, joined the 143 women who attended the event, as well as Ashraf Patel, the specialist breast surgeon at PAH and St Margaret's.

The PAH NHS Charitable Trust Fund not only pays for clinical trials and treatment but also supports patients undergoing treatment and provides rehabilitation afterwards.

After the lunch, the ladies enjoyed a fashion show, which had been put on by Tracey Steward and Susannah Downey from Mie Style. Bridgette said:"Huge thanks to them both for their support and to all who were involved and who donated, making this event such a huge success."
