Motorists are being warned over the closure of a route from Harlow to Hatfield Heath as the scheme for a new junction 7A on the M11 reaches "an important milestone".

The B183 Gilden Way/Sheering Road in Harlow will be closed to traffic from 8pm on Friday (Jan 21) until 5am on |Monday (Jan 24) to allow for surfacing works between the Churchgate Street roundabout and Lower Sheering Road.

Essex Highways said that due to the nature of the work, it can only be carried out when there is less traffic on the network. There will be limited vehicular access for residents as the carriageway will be fully closed.

A free shuttle bus service (route 59) will be available from Lower Sheering Road to Hatfield Heath from Saturday morning to Sunday evening.

Work began on the new M11 junction between Harlow (J7) and Bishop's Stortford (J8) in the summer of 2020, with the aim of creating a new east-west link which will move traffic smoothly out of Harlow onto the motorway. It is also hoped it will reduce congestion on the north-south links through Harlow and towards J7.

Work has resulted in numerous night-time closures on both carriageways of the M11 between Harlow and Stortford, along with speed restrictions.

Although during the closures diversions have directed traffic along the A414 in Harlow, the A10 and the A120 at Puckeridge to J8, residents in Sawbridgeworth have suffered night-time noise and disruption as drivers take a shorter route back to the M11.
