Bishop's Stortford railway death: Young man dies after being hit by train

A man in his early 20s died after being hit by a train in Bishop's Stortford late on Tuesday night (June 16).

The incident happened on the London-Cambridge main line at Twyford Road, by the Twyford Business Centre, off London Road. There is a foot crossing at the end of the road.

British Transport Police were called at 10.37pm following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

A spokesman said: "Officers attended but sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokeswoman for the East of England ambulance service said: "We were called shortly before 10.45pm to a report of a casualty on the tracks.

"We sent an ambulance, ambulance officer and hazardous area response team. The crews were stood down on arrival as sadly the patient had died."

The train involved was the 9.55pm from London Liverpool Street to Cambridge.
