Man kicked in the back by one of four masked would-be robbers on bikes in Bishop's Stortford

A man was kicked in the back in an attempted robbery in the middle of the night in Bishop's Stortford.

The incident happened in Apton Road in the early hours of Thursday (August 26). It was reported to police officers who were in the area at around 2.20am.

The 25-year-old victim was walking home when he was approached by a male on a bike who asked if he had any money. The victim said no and continued walking.

He was then approached from behind by a second male on a bike, who kicked him in the back. The victim ran off and sought help from friends.

A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "It is believed there were up to four suspects, all of whom had their faces covered."

Officers searched the area but the suspects were not traced. Enquiries are continuing.

On Nextdoor, the hyperlocal neighbourhood social networking site, a man posted that a friend had been "attacked from behind, kicked in the back" in Cemetery Road [sic] in the early hours of Thursday "by four youths on bikes".

He said: "He is shaken up but got away. They were after money. A police car stopped and spoke to my friend, so they are aware."
