A man stole a jar of sweets being offered by a Bishop's Stortford shop as the prize in a competition to raise money for a children's charity.

The Spar convenience store on the corner of Stortford Hall Park and Dunmow Road has been challenging customers to pay to guess the number of sweets in the jar on its counter.

Police are examining CCTV footage of the theft, which happened at around 12.15pm last Wednesday (Sept 8).

They describe the man they are looking for as white, bald and quite tanned. He was wearing cream shorts and no top.

A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Constabulary said the sweet jar was to raise money for the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children).

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting crime reference number 41/70983/21.
