Sawbridgeworth flooring company lays down new home as it makes the move from West Road to Bell Street

The latest addition to Sawbridgeworth town centre was given the seal of approval by town mayor Greg Rattey.

The Flooring Company has moved across town from West Road to Bell Street, and on Saturday July 3 Cllr Rattey cut a ribbon to declare the family-run business officially open as it welcomed in a new era.

The town is enjoying something of a boom with several new businesses opening, including a jewellery workshop, bubble tea café and travel agent.

Stuart Wickes, who runs The Flooring Company with Charlie Taylor and Paula Smith, was pleased to have moved across the main A1184 through the town to Bell Street, which he felt had changed.

“It’s got a little bit of a different vibe,” said Stuart, adding: “It’s nice to become part of the community.”

The shop stocks carpet, vinyl and Karndean flooring. It has been trading for five years.

Besides his role as mayor, Cllr Rattey is the town council's business champion and supported traders during the coronavirus lockdowns, ensuring they were aware of any grants available. He is in the process of meeting landlords of shops and other businesses in Sawbo.
