Hillmead Primary School summer fete in pictures
The mayor of Bishop's Stortford kept a cool head as more than 400 people enjoyed attractions and entertainment at the Hillmead Summer Fete in Bishop's Stortford.
Cllr Dave Anderson was only too happy to volunteer for the stocks, run by Year 6 pupils of the Bishop's Park primary school, where he got a good soaking from visitors hurling and splatting wet sponges at his head.
The event featured performances from street dance crew Hip Hop Pop, Own Your Joy and Stortford Cheerleaders squad Hillmead Heroes, who meet every Wednesday before school.
DJ Digital Pocahontas kept the crowds entertained all afternoon, providing the musical backdrop to the inflatables, stalls, games and food and drink vendors.
The fete was organised by the school's PTA (parent teacher association). Chair Jo Geddes said that it had raised around £2,500 – "which is great but won't cover even half of what the school require for next year," she added.
"Although we tried fundraising through Covid, the outcome was minimal and we simply can't help with vital funds for the school like we normally would, so we're very concerned for next term and beyond.
"They rely on us to subsidise swimming lessons, school trips, workshops, maintenance around the school and to pay for educational resources such as Twinkl."
Jo acknowledged the support of the main sponsors, Harlow estate agent Reyland Johnson, Bishop's Stortford high street shop Barnes Flooring, easyStorage and Howdens.
Hillmead Summer Fete took place on Saturday June 25.
