McLaren sports car driver flown to hospital with serious injuries after crash near Stortford

All three emergency services were called to the scene of a crash on the outskirts of Bishop's Stortford which resulted in the driver of a high-performance sports car being flown to hospital with serious injuries.

The accident happened on Farnham Road, Farnham, soon after 10am on Saturday (Nov 2) during wet weather. The road was closed as a result.

It involved only one vehicle, a McLaren 540C, which crashed off the road, leaving the driver trapped in the wreckage.

A fire and rescue crew from Bishop's Stortford helped medics to extricate the casualty, who was then flown to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge by an Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust helicopter.

The McLaren 540C is a two-door coupé which can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 199mph.
