‘Dedicated bunch’ of Saffron Walden Museum’s 50 volunteers treated to tea party and ukelele lessons
A tea party has been held to celebrate the “dedicated bunch” of volunteers who help keep Saffron Walden Museum operational.
The museum has 50 volunteers who give over 2,500 hours of their valuable time to help throughout the year.
They fulfil several different roles such as running the welcome desk, sorting and cataloguing collections, helping to run the popular learning activities, and with some maintenance in the museum and gardening in the grounds.
The ‘thank you’ tea party was held as part of national Volunteers’ Week, held in the first week of June. The museum’s new Community Engagement Officer, Michael Davidson, ran a ukelele lesson, which was a great icebreaker and proved fun for the team.
Jenny Oxley, Interim Curator, said: “Our volunteers are a very dedicated bunch – without their help and commitment the museum simply could not operate. We are delighted to celebrate and thank them for their terrific support.”
The museum is always looking for new volunteers to join the team on a regular basis, or to provide ad-hoc cover. To find out more, visit the museum website at www.saffronwaldenmuseum.org, call 01799 510333 or email museum@uttlesford.gov.uk.
