Sawbridgeworth school's teachers throw themselves into virtual charity week

Leventhorpe School’s annual Charity Week went ahead virtually, with teachers throwing themselves into activities which helped raise a fantastic amount for a vital health cause.

Events, which were pre-recorded and shown at virtual assemblies throughout last week, included bush tucker trials, an inflatable assault course and Malcolm White, headteacher at the London Road, Sawbridgeworth school, even plunged into a wheely bin of ice!

Mr White pledged to host an assembly in an ‘ice bath’ if the week raised more than £750 and as the money more than topped that he gamely took the plunge.

The week raised a whopping £8,100, money which goes to The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Charitable Fund, which enhances patient care, purchases special equipment, improves facilities and invests in vital research which is beyond the scope or limits of the NHS.

James Daws, head of Social Sciences said: “In these difficult times it is important to try and continue to do the things that make Leventhorpe such a great place to be a part of, whether as a student, member of staff, or parent.

“We hope this version of Charity Week has provided a semblance of normality and a bit of fun in the strange time in which we find ourselves.”
