Nando's is set to open its new Bishop's Stortford branch in Potter Street on September 18.

The public relations company representing the South African chain, which serves Portuguese-style piri piri chicken, confirmed the date but said that no other details were yet available.

The restaurant is expected to employ 30-35 people.

After a wrangle over potential noise and fumes and despite objections from Eat 17 next door, East Herts Council has granted Nando's planning permission to change the vacant Jackson Square shop unit into a restaurant, alter the frontage and add its iconic name and cockerel logo to the fascia.

The business has also asked the authority for a licence to serve alcohol.
