Bishop's Stortford Museum searches for eight young curators

Bishop's Stortford Museum is running a second programme for young curators this spring.

Applications close for the second set of sessions at South Mill Arts on Thursday (January 12).

The initiative for students aged 15-plus launched successfully last autumn and gave participants an insight into a career in museums and historical studies.

Janet Shepherd, the museum's learning and outreach coordinator, said: "We hope that by offering opportunities like this we can encourage younger volunteers to the museum.

"Over eight sessions they will learn about the requirements of a museum and the day-to-day care of the artefacts on display.

"They will gain practical experience in recording, storing and exhibiting artefacts, and explore how to share the stories of these objects in an engaging way.

"Using all they have learned they will research some artefacts not previously on display and create exhibits and outreach resources for the museum to use."

The free sessions run on Tuesdays from 4pm to 5.30pm and the students work in the museum at South Mill Arts.

The next programme starts on January 17 and there are eight places available.

Students should email Janet at Jshepherd@southmillarts.co.uk with some personal details and a brief summary of why they want to join the programme.

The closing date for applications is January 12.
