The shortest route from the town centre to Thorley Park and part of the one-way system in the heart of Bishop's Stortford are to be shut for roadworks.

Highways authority Herts County Council has given notice of closure of the B1004 Windhill/Great Hadham Road as well as Riverside/Adderley Road.

The closures are effective from January 28. Signs at the sites will pinpoint the precise start dates for the projects and the closure permissions will remain in place for 18 months.

A 0.7-mile (1.1km) stretch of the B1004 Windhill/Great Hadham Road will be closed between its junction with the Bells Hill/Windhill Old Road roundabout and the Villiers-sur-Marne Avenue/Oriole Way roundabout entrances to Thorley Park and Bishop's Gate.

The closure notice says a diversion will be put in place via Windhill/High Street, North Street, Hadham Road, the A1184 Bishops Park Way and Great Hadham Road.

Riverside and Adderley Close will be shut for the 0.2-mile stretch between Station Road and The Causeway. Traffic will be diverted via South Street, Potter Street, Market Square, North Street, Hadham Road and Link Road.
