Parents face more road works as Bishop’s Stortford children get set to return to school
Parents getting ready to take their children back to class after the Christmas holidays will have more road works to negotiate on the school run.
Affinity Water is back in Bishop’s Stortford as “essential” work necessitating temporary two-way traffic signals began in Stansted Road on Monday (Jan 6).
In its application for a work permit, Affinity says: “We are carrying out essential work to maintain the resilience of our infrastructure with fewer disruptions.” The work is due to finish at midnight on Friday (Jan 10).
Affinity also began work on Monday (Jan 6) at the junction of London Road and Thorley Hill, in Stortford, with temporary multi-way signals in place. Work will continue until Wednesday (Jan 8).
Gipsy Lane, between Stortford and Stansted, is closed from today (Monday) until January 31 for work by The Electricity Network Company Ltd.
Most of the area’s schools return on Tuesday (Jan 7) after the Christmas break.
Motorists might have hoped the regular rash of road works which caused traffic chaos in the Bishop’s Stortford area at times throughout 2024 would not be repeated this year – but the first week of 2025 appears to have quashed those hopes.
