As the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve, Bishop's Stortford first-time mum-to-be Amberley Hamilton was heading to the maternity unit.

And at 6.15pm on January 1, little Georgia Hamilton-Harris was born, weighing 7lb 12oz (3.5kg) – one of 10 New Year's Day babies who welcomed the new decade at Harlow's Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Dad Colin Harris, 40, said: "We literally wished each other and my sons a very Happy New Year at midnight and I then dropped the boys off to their nan's house.

"To say it's the best new year ever is an understatement. Her elder brothers are smitten and us parents are just totally in love with our belated Christmas and New Year present."

New arrival Georgia went home to Cherry Gardens the following day.

Amberley said that it was a great start to the year. "And we know that she'll always have a party now on her birthday!"
