Photographer Nigel Blake responds to pleas for pictures to be made into Sawbridgeworth calendar

More news, no ads

Nigel Blake is among a roving band of photographers who have been delighting Facebook friends with pictures of Sawbridgeworth’s wildlife and landscapes during the coronavirus crisis.

Now he has responded to requests from his admirers for his pictures to be available in a calendar.

The ring-bound calendar features 13 photos taken within a two-mile radius of the town, including by the River Stort and in Pishiobury Park. They cost £12.45 each, with discounts for orders of more than one. (See foot of article for details of how to order)

Within minutes of posting the good news on Facebook that he was producing a calendar, he had scores of people ordering copies.

"When I decided to do this calendar after so many 'You should do a calendar' comments it was a bit of a step into the unknown," said Nigel.

"Initially I hoped I’d get 50 orders, and within an hour of posting the ordering details I had over that number. They included a couple of orders by local businesses for 12 and 20, so I took a gamble and decided to get 200 printed – there are less than 50 unsold."

He is expecting Indie coverage of his calendar in this week's paper and in this article to trigger more orders. "I might need to get more printed," he said.

Nigel, a born and bred Sawbridgeworth man, was given his first camera for his 12th birthday.

A strong interest in aviation and building model aircraft eventually led to a 30-year career in movies. His model-making, animatronics and visual effects skills saw him work on 57 major films, including seven James Bond movies.

He revealed that this wasn’t his first attempt to make a calendar of his photos, but said that this time, with help from his daughter Holly Anne, the idea had finally taken off. "Next year I will be doing some more!" he said.
