Northgate Primary School pupils team up as the Tiger Sharks to swim 5k for Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK

A team of 10 Year 4 pupils at Bishop's Stortford's Northgate Primary School aim to make a splash for charity this weekend.

The "Tiger Sharks", as they have been dubbed, will attempt to swim 5k (3.1 miles) between them on Sunday (September 12) to raise £1,000 for Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK as part of the national Swimathon event for both causes.

Jackson Bramall, Dilys Evans, Griff Evans, Eden Fulbrook, Jack Johnson, Anya Quail, Georgia Scadding, Noémie Sibert, Charlotte Stenson and Niamh Yeoman will swim 20 lengths each of the 25m pool at Grange Paddocks Leisure Centre.

Some of the children have gained only a 25m badge so it will be a challenge for them but they are all keen to achieve their goal.

Organiser Dave Stenson said: "This will be a fantastic effort by the children as some have never swum this far in a day ever! They've each got great support from their family and hope to raise over £1,000 for their efforts."

So far their fundraising total sits on £983 from 47 supporters. To help them reach four figures visit justgiving.com/fundraising/tiger-sharks.
