Bishop’s Stortford man arranges return trip with old friends from Harlow school to Land’s End in Cornwall – 50 years on

Five friends decided to re-enact a trip to Cornwall they made as 20-somethings – 50 years on.

Bishop’s Stortford man Peter Wenzel came up with the idea after spotting an article in a Cornish newspaper about a group meeting up again after 40 years.

He decided to arrange a holiday back in Cornwall with old school friends from Passmores secondary in Harlow in September. There was some sadness as one of the group – Roger Bennett – died around 20 years ago.

In 1974 the friends embarked on the original trip in a camper van – but this time around Peter cut down the journey time by flying from Stansted Airport to Newquay.

“We had a lovely week’s holiday,” said Peter, 73, who is a member of Bishop’s Stortford Running Club.

The friends restaged a photo taken 50 years ago at the iconic Land’s End signpost – with a picture of Roger pinned to the post to remember him.
