Free sports activities for children of all ages in Bishop’s Stortford town centre in August
Children of all ages and abilities can enjoy a summer of free and inclusive sport in Bishop’s Stortford town centre.
The Sports 4 All programme, featuring a diverse range of games, will take place in the former Charringtons House car park across three days - Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10am to 4pm - on three separate weekends in August.
The scheme is being run by Kitteridge All Sports (KAS) and has been designed with fun in mind.
Youngsters can try out dodgeball, boccia, archery and tri-golf before the event culminates in a mini Olympics.
KAS coach Ross Kitteridge has been working with primary schools in and around Stortford since 2008. His company runs sports leagues throughout the academic year as well as school holiday camps, with the emphasis on inclusion.
Kitteridge also formed the 5Ds dodgeball club at the turn of the year, with more than 80 children attending its Friday evening sessions at Bishop’s Stortford College.
And dodgeball is the attraction when the Sports 4 All summer of fun gets under way on Thursday August 1 to Saturday August 3. There will be competitions with prizes up for grabs. Suitable for ages 5+.
On August 8 to August 10, an inclusive games weekend will feature boccia, archery and tri-golf.
Boccia is a strategic game where the objective is to roll, toss or throw colourful balls as close as possible to a target ball, called the jack. The game, which is suitable for various group sizes and all abilities, promotes friendly competition and skill development.
Tri-golf is a fun and energetic version of the sport, perfect for aspiring golfers as they try to hit targets. Suitable for all abilities.
There will be up to 10 lanes of archery, which will be played with rubber-tipped arrows, to allow for varying difficulties and to cater for different age groups.
Children, parents and grandparents are encouraged to take part in the mini Olympics, which takes place from August 15 to 17.
A mini track and field setup will give participants the chance to show off their skills and compete for top scores.
The Sports 4 All programme has been funded by East Herts Council, the Brazier Trust for Bishop’s Stortford Town Council and the Bishop’s Stortford BID (Business Improvement District).
