Orphaned fawn Ziggy finds a new home at Mountfitchet Castle in Stansted

A two-month-old orphaned fawn named Ziggy is proving a deer-light to visitors at Stansted’s Mountfitchet Castle.

The young fallow deer was rescued after its mum was killed in a road accident.

Five other does already in residence at the popular Norman Castle and House on the Hill Toy Museum, situated off Lower Street, have quickly welcomed her into the herd.

Ziggy enjoys a cuddle with James Goldsmith, 3, and his brother Henry, 5.

Castle owner Jeremy Goldsmith said: “She is absolutely wonderful and one of the most attentive, loving deer we have. The other females have it in them to want a baby so when one turns up, they love and nurture it as their own and you can hear them all bleating to each other.

“We will have been open for 40 years next year and in that time have probably had 20-30 deer. It’s nice to have that new blood coming in and my boys have enjoyed bottle feeding her.”
