A nursery at Takeley which "inspires children with a range of rich, stimulating activities" has been graded 'outstanding' by Ofsted.

High House Day Nursery in Mill End achieved the highest possible score in all areas following a visit by the school inspectorate in September.

Children were described as “thriving” while staff were commended for their "excellent attention", with special praise given for the way in which they chatted to children to promote healthy eating and talked to babies about what they are having for snacks and other meals.

The inspector noted that youngsters arrived at the nursery "excited and very eager for their day to begin”, interacting with warmth and confidence as their key person greeted them.

The report goes on to describe the children as “extremely happy”, commenting that “their communication is successfully encouraged, as they enjoy an extremely rich and varied language environment”.

It added: "Babies at the nursery relate exceptionally well and their needs are understood through the excellent use of body and sign language.”

Children developed an excellent awareness and understanding of their emotions and their behaviour was "exemplary as all children are listened to and understood”.

Staff were given credit for the “exceptional” work undertaken with other agencies involved in the lives of their children, including the attention given to supporting all funded children.

Ofsted recognised the nursery’s excellent partnership with parents, who “speak very highly of the nursery and about how their children have become extremely confident and articulate”.

The inspector commended the leadership team and all members of staff, who are “committed to reflecting on and evaluating what they do”, adding that “the leadership team supports staff to pay excellent attention to continuing to develop their knowledge of child protection”.

Nursery manager Kelly Greenwood said: “The last year has been an incredible journey; me and the team have worked extremely hard. I joined High House in September 2020, gaining a wonderful team who care deeply about each child at the nursery. They go above and beyond for the children and our parents.

"We pride ourselves on growing confident, independent children, offering them all unique opportunities to support their learning and development. We're delighted with the Ofsted result.”
