Outstanding International Baccalaureate results for Hockerill students
Students at Hockerill Anglo-European College achieved an outstanding set of results in the International Baccalaureate (IB), with a pass rate of 98%.
In all, 116 pupils at the Dunmow Road state secondary school completed the demanding course this year. Of these, 15 attained more than 40 points, a score gained by fewer than 10% of 150,000 IB students worldwide and which is equivalent to more than four A*s at A-level.
Top performers include Stanley Hinton, who scored 44 points, Ieuan Chappel, Joe Hoult, Esther Grunbaum and Karl Martin (43 each) and Michaelle Del Carretto, Tania Di Biase and Sam Tatchell (42).
Richard Markham, principal, said: “I am very proud of our class of 2018 and am delighted that they have received such a promising set of results.
“We know full well that the students who leave us with the IB Diploma are very well placed to achieve at the highest levels at university and our graduates can look forward confidently to further success.”
The IB is an alternative to A-levels. Students complete six subjects, rather than the usual three or four, which must include English, maths, a science and a second language. In addition, they study a seventh core subject, perform community service and complete a 4,000-word essay.
