Choosing the right care for your loved ones isn't always easy, but Home Instead understands that home is where people feel happiest.

Home Instead has been at the forefront of specialised home care for the elderly and supporting those being cared for, and their families, for more than 25 years.

Its award-winning care at home fits around your life – it's tailored, flexible and adaptable. Whether you are looking for help getting dressed and showered, help around the house or companionship, Home Instead's trained CAREGivers are perfectly matched to you.

Its home care services span home help, companionship, personal care and dementia care.

"The ethos our CAREGivers have is that they're looking after 'my nan or grandad'," said David Bassett, general manager and director at the East Herts & Uttlesford office, based at The Maltings in Sawbridgeworth.

"It's really important that our clients are reassured that the staff member going in to support them – whether it's personal care, home help or companionship – is going to really care for them as a nan or grandad.

"It's important to get the elderly population back into the community and get their quality of life back to what it was before Covid.

"I can see with some of our clients that they're a little bit worried about whether it's safe to go out in the community and to see their friends. We can be there to support and reassure them."

Home Instead was founded in 1994 by husband and wife Paul and Lori Hogan, and now has 18,000 clients and 14,000 staff in the UK.

The East Herts & Uttlesford office – one of 235 in the UK – was established in July 2008 by its owner Mark Greatbatch. He handed over the running of the office to David Bassett in December 2010, with both men having worked in the care sector since 1996.

The national company has won a host of accolades, including gold at the bfa HSBC Franchise Awards and a Princess Royal Training Award, as well as being named in the Sunday Times' Best 100 Small Companies To Work For.

CAREGivers are hand-picked for their character and values, and are expertly trained to support older people and their families. This ensures their interests, hobbies and personality can be closely matched with those of their clients so they can become friendly faces to know and trust.

"A person may have lived in their home for 30- or 40-plus years and been told they need to move into a residential or nursing home or warden-assisted scheme, but Home Instead provides other options," said David.

"We do live-in care, we can sit with a client while a family member goes out to support in that way, we do respite care and overnight stays – we've even taken clients on holidays."

As well as caring for the elderly, Home Instead offers support services for over-18s with learning disabilities and mental health issues, giving them the confidence to get back into the community.

Home Instead has its own charity, which can help organisations and local groups with fundraising and can provide support with filling in forms to secure grants.

David and his passionate team in East Herts & Uttlesford are always on hand to offer advice and support to everyone – not just existing clients and their families – and CAREGivers have access to a 24-hour support line to ensure they can always give the very best of care to clients.

"Home Instead isn't just about personal care and making sure our clients are safe at home – we're a one-stop shop to come and talk about home care, issues you might have at home or issues you might have with finances," said David. "You can just give us a ring.

"There are other organisations, but we're local – not in a call centre – and we're here to help. We can also refer and signpost people as well as being there for them."
