Bishop’s Stortford fire station open day attracts 1,800 people and raises £700 for The Fire Fighters Charity

Crowds flocked to Bishop’s Stortford fire station’s open day, with demonstrations on how crews deal with the aftermath of road traffic collisions and the chance to hose down a ‘fire’ proving popular.

The event at the station in Patmore Close on Saturday attracted around 1,800 people and £700 was raised for The Fire Fighters Charity.

Besides the crews performing demonstrations, youngsters could watch as their teddies parachuted to safety from the appliance tower. As always, the chance to sit in a fire engine was a thrill for visitors and the free food was popular.

Bishop’s Stortford Fire Fighters Charity representative Richard Stybar told the Indie: “We’re very grateful to all those that were able to attend and we want to thank everyone that made a donation.

“The Fire Fighters Charity relies on fundraising events and the generosity of others to be able to provide vital services for firefighters and their families.”

Richard added: “It was great to see so many people enjoying the fire station and what we had to offer.

“It’s really important for us to be able to interact with our local community in order for us to provide better safety advice and reach all corners of our town and surrounding areas.

“We want everyone to know that Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service will continue to work hard to educate on prevention and to provide fire, water and driving safety advice to our most at risk groups.

“If anyone requires, or simply feels they would benefit from, a free home fire safety visit, please contact your local fire station.”
