Bishop's Stortford Liberal Democrats turn up the heat at summer barbecue
Bishop’s Stortford Liberal Democrats boosted their campaign funds with a summer barbecue.
Herts county councillor Calvin Horner, who was elected to serve the Stortford East division in May, when he also secured a town council seat, said: “It was a great success, once again being able to enjoy a splendid meal together in a sunny garden.
"For those of us who wished, it was also a good opportunity to discuss some of the developments affecting our town.”
As a group, the Lib Dems have been listening to residents’ concerns about issues including Birchwood High School’s proposed sports facilities, a new Lidl for Stansted Road, the planned 24/7 distribution centre at St James' Park and now the possible loss of level pedestrian access to the railway station from the London Road area.
Cllr Chris Wilson, an East Herts Council member, said: “We are doing our best to represent residents at all the appropriate meetings.”
Fellow district councillor Mione Goldspink added: “We are proactively lobbying the planning department and Network Rail about the need to retain the ramp/slope between the station and the upper part of Station Road. We feel very strongly that access to public transport should be equally available to everyone.”
