NHS front-line workers warm to free offer from Bishop's Stortford gas and heating engineer Paul Merton
The nation's NHS workers have been given warm words of appreciation throughout the pandemic – now an award-winning heating engineer is making sure their homes are equally comfy when they come off shift.
Paul Merton, of PJM Gas & Heating, is offering 10 free one-hour appointments to NHS front-line keyworkers (doctors, nurses, paramedics, carers etc) in Bishop’s Stortford and the surrounding villages.
"I just wanted to say thank you for everything they're doing for us – I want them to feel appreciated," said Paul, 47, of Bishop's Park.
The father of two retrained as a plumber in 2005 following a change of career from his job as a research analyst in the City. In the first four years of setting up his own company he won several awards.
"I was voted by Trading Standards as one of the top 10 tradespeople in the UK, and being the only plumber in the top 10 that made me the top plumber in the UK," said Paul, who has lived in Stortford for eight years and since 2019 has concentrated solely on gas and heating work.
He said there was flexibility to the one-hour slots offered to workers. "Within the hour we could undertake a variety of boiler, heating or hot water tasks such as a boiler service, a gas safety check, radiator balancing, replacement radiator valves and so on," he said.
The 10 appointments will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis and there are some conditions. The scheme expires onFebruary 28, 2021 and the appointments must be taken by then.
