Bishop's Stortford police find knives and drugs in a red VW Golf

By Paul Winspear

Police found three knives, cannabis and a substance believed to be a class A drug when they stopped a car in Bishop's Stortford.

The 26-year-old driver of the red Volkswagen Golf initially refused to pull over in the early hours of Tuesday, November 27 so officers pursued him.

When he finally stopped in Nightingales, near Herts and Essex Hospital, he got out of the car and walked off.

Police followed him. They thought he smelled of cannabis and tried to search him, but he resisted and ran away. Officers caught up to him at the junction with Haymeads Lane.

He reached into his pocket and police, believing he intended to pull out a weapon, used an incapacitant spray on him.

They arrested him after they found the knives and drugs in his car. He has since been released under investigation.
