Police investigate car thieves' activity around Bishop's Stortford

Police are investigating the theft of two cars and the attempted theft of a third in Bishop's Stortford in the space of five days.

The owner of a black Ford EcoSport saw a gang try to steal her SUV under cover of darkness on the Havers estate last Wednesday (June 5).

It had been parked outside its owner’s home in Kent Crescent. At 11.20pm she heard the alarm go off. When she looked outside she saw a group of four or five men flee towards Norfolk Way.

She went to investigate and saw that the driver's door handle had been snapped and an attempt had been made to start the car.

Across town, a red Ford Focus was stolen from Stortford Hall Park. The 2004-reg had been left in the street on Saturday May 25 for more than a fortnight and when the owner returned on Monday (June 10) it had gone.

In the third incident, a Fiat 500 was stolen from the St Michael's Mead estate. The owner discovered on Sunday morning (June 9) it had been stolen. She believes she accidentally dropped her car keys outside her Milliners Way home at 11pm the night before.
