Police operation targets anti-social driving through Bishop’s Stortford town centre
A police operation targeting anti-social driving through Bishop’s Stortford town centre resulted in two drivers being issued with warning notices.
On Saturday night (June 7), officers from the town’s Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) set up positions in Dane Street from where they stopped nine vehicles seen driving in an anti-social manner and spoke to the drivers.
The operation was in response to concerns raised by residents in the area.
Said a spokesperson for East Herts police: “Officers from the NPT provided a visible presence and stopped a number of vehicles in Dane Street, to speak to people about the manner of their driving.
“Two drivers were also given warning notices under section 59 of the Police Reform Act. The warning notice applies to both the driver and the vehicle they are using at the time. If caught again, they could have their vehicle seized and face further action for road traffic offences.”
Neighbourhood Sergeant Andy Crow added: “We know this issue is continuing to cause a lot of concern among residents who are worried about road safety and are being disturbed by excessive noise. We therefore carried out this operation to help identify those involved and issue warnings. If the behaviour continues, we will not hesitate to seize vehicles wherever necessary.”
