Police will be patrolling woodland in Elsenham following reports of a man dressed as a dog hiding in the trees.

Resident Keeleigh Andrews posted the sighting on the Elsenham and Henham Newsline Facebook page having returned from a bike ride with her six-year-old niece on Saturday June 13.

She described seeing a man wearing "a full-on mascot dog outfit" who was "on his own hiding in the woods staring at us as we went by and followed us with his eyes".

Keeleigh and her niece had been riding through Alsa Wood, near its boundary with the M11 bridge and close to a large tractor tyre tree swing, an area popular with children.

"It was very creepy," she added. "I don't think many people dress up in their spare time as Scooby Doo!"

Stansted PCSO Nikki Morris said when contacted by the Indie that it was the first she had heard of the sighting and said she would begin patrols in the area as it sounded "very strange".

Anyone with information should call Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
