Queen's 100th birthday congratulations for ballroom fan Brenda
Ballroom dancing fan Brenda Jones celebrated her 100th birthday at Thorley’s Premier Court care home.
She marked the momentous occasion with a card from the Queen and plenty of home-made cake to share with friends at the Thorley Lane facility. She moved into the Bupa care home two years ago.
Brenda grew up and lived in Chingford for 70 years. During the Second World War, she worked for the Islington fire service, helping to raise spirits by making tea and refreshments for firefighters and members of the public – a job Brenda insists was equally dangerous and important.
A self-confessed Michael Bublé fan, Brenda loves music and took up ballroom dancing with her third husband, Derek.
Jane Holly, activities co-ordinator at Premier Court, said: “Brenda has always said that her only wish on her birthday was to get a card from the Queen. Her face lit up when she was presented with the card surrounded by family and friends. Such a touching moment for everyone involved.”
Brenda said: “I want to thank everyone that celebrated my birthday with me. The staff were very accommodating and I’m really happy with my card from the Queen.”
