Bishop's Stortford Tesco shopper has £990 stolen by purse dipper

A sneaky thief took £990 from their victim’s bank account after stealing her £110 DKNY purse in the Bishop’s Park Tesco store in Bishop's Stortford.

A 54-year-old woman was targeted in the Lancaster Way store between 12pm and 1pm on Saturday (June 1).

Her purse was in her handbag, which she wore over her shoulder. She did not know how the thief took it.

After taking her purse, which also contained £20, the thief went to Lloyds bank in North Street and withdrew £490, then £500 using her Barclaycard.

Stortford police are investigating the incident, and the force has advice on how people can safeguard themselves against crimes of this nature on its website.
