Recycle your real Christmas tree and raise funds for St Clare Hospice

Booking is open to recycle your real Christmas tree and raise funds for St Clare Hospice.

Last year, the Hastingwood charity collected more than 1,450 firs and spruces from homes across west Essex and the border of East Herts, generating over £25,000.

Ellie Gale, St Clare’s relationship fundraising manager, said: “If you’re looking for an easy way to dispose of your Christmas tree once the tinsel and baubles have been packed away, then we have the solution for you.”

Booking is now open for collections between January 9 and 11 in postcode areas CB10, CB11, CM5, CM6, CM16 to CM24 inclusive, EN9, IG7, IG9 and IG10.

The hospice works with waste management organisations to collect the trees from doorsteps and recycle them responsibly.

The chippings are reused in a variety of ways, including as compost, in allotments, on playing fields or to create footpaths.

Ellie said: “We’re expecting record demand this year, so we urge everyone to book early to avoid disappointment. Why face the long queues at the tip when you can let us do the heavy lifting?

“Just make sure to register your tree by noon on Tuesday January 7 and you’ll start the year stress-free – without pine needles in your car!”
