West Road residents see red over yellow lines

Put-upon residents are up in arms after double yellow lines denoting no parking were painted on their street in Sawbridgeworth.

The residents of West Road have put up with road closures for nearly two years as part of construction of the Sawbridge Park housing development. They were furious when the lines appeared on Monday, claiming they were given no warning.

In response to a backlash from residents, who branded the move "disgraceful" and "a joke", Hertfordshire county councillor for Sawbridgeworth Eric Buckmaster said he did not know why affected residents had not been notified.

Cllr Buckmaster added that he believed the decision had been based on the safety of children going to school and ensuring bin lorries can have access.
