Bishop's Stortford Salvation Army branch cancels Christmas carol concert over 'rife' Covid-19 pandemic
The Salvation Army has cancelled its Christmas carol concert due to be held in Bishop's Stortford on Saturday evening (December 11) due to the increase in Covid-19 cases.
Major Alan Frederiksen, who is leader of the Stortford corps, posted on Facebook on Friday (Dec 10) that it was "with sadness, but also with absolute conviction that we are taking the right decision" that the event, due to be held at Bishop's Stortford Methodist Church in South Street at 7pm, had been cancelled.
He added it was the only course of action they could take as "the pandemic is rife again".
"We regret the disappointment this will be for many, but it is done with the safety and wellbeing for congregation and music presenters in mind," he said.
The Indie has teamed up with the Stortford branch of the Salvation Army for its toy appeal in a bid to bring festive cheer to more than 100 families across East Herts.
The focus is on gifts for children aged from birth to 10 years, which can be taken to the Indie office at 12 North Street in Stortford.
