Santa fundraiser gives Bishop's Stortford charities late Christmas present

Bishop’s Stortford and Stansted Round Table has given two worthy causes a financial boost thanks to a festive fundraiser.

Round Tablers recently visted Grove Cottage, the London Road home of Mencap in Bishop’s Stortford, while it was holding its Wednesday evening adult social club to present the charity with a cheque for £4,500.

Phil Street, chair of the Round Table, said: “We were delighted to be able to present this cheque to Grove Cottage. It’s always great to see at first hand where the money is making the difference.”

Other members of the group visited the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity support centre at Herts and Essex Hospital in Haymeads Lane to present the team with a £1,500 donation.

The Round Table raised the £6,000 total by staging its annual Santa’s Sleigh fundraiser.

In the run-up to Christmas, the team pounded the streets of Bishop’s Stortford and Stansted, taking Santa on his sleigh to meet thousands of delighted youngsters, while their parents popped coins in the group’s donation buckets.
