Bishop's Stortford Poppy Appeal organisers raise over £1,800 on sponsored 10-mile walk

Bishop's Stortford's Poppy Appeal organisers have smashed their fundraising target after completing a sponsored 10-mile walk.

Royal British Legion branch chairwoman Denise Hudson and her donations deputy Heidi Barden walked along the riverbank to Sawbridgeworth and back to boost the town's Remembrance fundraising.

They aimed to raise £1,000, but donations have surpassed that and the cash total currently stands at £1,825.

"The journey out was enjoyable, but just after we turned for home the heavens opened so the walk back was more an endurance test than a pleasure, and very slippery under foot," said Denise. "We were cold, soaked and very weary when we reached home, but nothing a hot bath and a nice cup of tea couldn't fix.

"Our thanks go to all who supported us and enabled us to reach such an impressive total – with hopefully a bit more to come."

Donations of cash or cheques, made payable to TRBL Poppy Appeal, can be dropped off at funeral director Daniel Robinson & Sons, 79-81 South Street, weekdays between 10am and 4pm, and at the Indie office at 12 North Street, weekdays 9am-5pm. Supporters can also donate online at https://mypoppyrun.britishlegion.org.uk/fundraising/MyPoppyRun2020-HeidiBarden.
