Father Christmas is coming to Bishop's Stortford a week early to spread festive cheer on a parade around the town with his elves in a sleigh drawn by reindeer.

Barringtons Funeral Directors has been liaising with the big man to arrange a visit to Stortford on Friday (Dec 18) and Harlow the next day.

The Jingle Bell Sleigh will set off from the company's Hockerill Street office at 4pm on a non-stop two-hour, eight-mile tour of the town taking in the Parsonage and Havers estates and the town centre, and returning to Hockerill at 6pm.

Reindeer will pull his ornate sleigh while a crew of sweet little elves collect money for local hospices Isabel and St Clare. Onlookers should listen out for festive music and bells and keep an eye out for the sleigh's twinkling fairy lights and lanterns.

While it is hoped the spectacle will bring some festive normality, Covid-19 restrictions still must be observed. Children are urged to wave to Santa from their front doors, windows or driveways. The route has been planned with this in mind, covering as many streets as possible so fewer people need to leave their homes.

Barringtons business partners Nikki Field and Lisa Aldridge Weeks, who have orchestrated the festive extravaganza, said: "Our sole aim is to bring a little magic to an otherwise difficult year. We both have young children and the schools have been hit hard.

"It's also been an incredibly difficult time for charities, so we've decided to raise money for Isabel Hospice and St Clare Hospice."

Santa and his elves will visit Harlow on Saturday. All money donated in Stortford on Friday will go to Isabel Hospice while the Harlow collection will be sent to St Clare.
