Sawbridgeworth man in court after car hits police officer

A Sawbridgeworth man will appear in court today (Wednesday, July 14) after a police officer was hit by a car and injured in Harlow.

Mohammed Rahman, 24, of Lawrence Avenue, has been charged with dangerous driving, assault of an emergency worker, actual bodily harm, obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty, failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Shortly before 12.30pm yesterday (Tuesday, July 13), an Essex Police officer attempted to stop a car in First Avenue, Harlow. During the incident, he was struck by a car, which then left the scene.

A spokesman for the force said: "Thankfully, the officer's injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing. He was taken to hospital for treatment and is being supported by colleagues."

Rahman will appear in Chelmsford Magistrates Court.
