Shell confirms Little Waitrose at Sawbridgeworth fuel stop but no electric charging stations

Sawbridgeworth’s revamped petrol station is to have a Little Waitrose shop as planned, Shell has confirmed – but there will be no electric charging points when it opens.

A spokesman for the oil giant said the plan for a Little Waitrose at the site in London Road would go ahead and the firm has “future-proofed” the site for EV charging stations.

Work was restarted on the site earlier in July and Shell said that after a series of delays including a contamination issue, the new station would open by the end of the year.

The revamp was held up after an environmental survey was ordered and work could not begin before the discharge of a contamination condition.

In May this year, Shell told the Indie it was waiting for East Herts Council to do that and the go-ahead came at the end of that month.
